Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly In MS Dhoni’s Dream Team: ‘There’s Nobody Better’

MS Dhoni Dream Team: MS Dhoni had the privilege of both playing alongside and then captaining some of the legendary cricketers to have represented India. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Yuvraj Singh – the list goes one.

No wonder when Dhoni was asked to pick his dream team not bounded by nationality or era, he stuck to Indian players. However, after naming three players, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter stopped to explain why he never picks a dream team.

“Yeah, I would stick to my Indian players,” Dhoni said on a podcast with Raj Shamani. “Viru pa (Virender Sehwag) opening the innings. So Viru pa, Sachin, Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Because, you know, the thing is, imagine everyone at their prime. And the beauty is when you see them playing, you will feel there’s nobody better. But cricket a game of ups and downs. So it becomes very difficult how to pick but growing up we have all seen these players perform.

Dhoni then added since all these players have made contribution towards the success of Indian cricket, he would just like to enjoy their performances.

“You know when Yuvi (Yuvraj) was hitting six sixes, you’d say you don’t want to watch anyone else. So, the thing is, why I should pick anyone? Why can’t I just enjoy everyone? You know, they all contributed for India. You know, they all made sure that we win many tournaments wherever we are playing,” he said.

“Not everything was covered before (like today). There are lot of performances that I may not be aware of, generations I may not be aware of but some of the talents we have seen especially at their peak, you will be like ‘mind blowing’,” he added.
